Work and Organizational Psychology

An evidence-based approach to sustainable performance and business intelligence

Psychology

Psychology is the scientific study of how individuals behave in different contexts. Scientists examine why individuals differ from each other (e.g., personality, values, emotional competence, intelligence, skills), and why some groups of people may behave similarly (e.g., social norms and rules, national or organizational culture). The purpose of psychological science is to challenge and test common beliefs about human nature, understand and predict behavior, and determine how individuals and groups develop, learn, and change over time.

Work and Organizational Psychology (also referred to as Industrial-Organizational (I-O) Psychology)

Work and Organizational Psychology is the scientific study of the workplace. The knowledge base and scientific methods of psychology are applied to issues of critical relevance to business, including talent management, coaching, assessment, selection, training, organizational development, motivation, leadership, and performance.

Professionals in this field are committed to improving performance and quality of life at the individual, group, and organizational level. They use their knowledge and experience in psychology, management, organizational behavior, and behavioral finance and economics to analyze workplace challenges, propose and implement solutions, and accompany individuals and groups in their quest for continuous improvement. The purpose of any intervention is to build on existing strengths and to prevent distress.

Work and Organizational Psychology is based on the principles of positive psychology.
